TAKS

Sienna took her first “regular” TAKS test this week. She was very nervous about it. She practiced and studied. To add to her sense of anxiety, she accidentally broke her glasses the weekend before the test. Eeks!
We had to think of something. We took the glasses to be repaired, but they weren’t able to repair them. They didn’t make her model of frames anymore either, so there wasn’t any time to order a new model of frames. They used a spare part from some other similarly sized glasses to “fix” them. It wasn’t fashionable and barely set straight on her face. I felt so bad for her. Not only was she nervous, but now she had to feel self conscious about her “special” glasses.
In typical Sienna spirit, she went to school focusing on the positive. I let her buy breakfast at school since she considers that a treat.
She feels like she did well on her tests and is glad that it’s done! Now to order her some new glasses–hopefully we can find something cute that’s still in her “signature red”. ūüôā

Travel Woes

Transferred from another blog location:

As Sienna gets older, the need for adaptive seating gets trickier.  She currently is in a toddler carseat in our personal vehicle.  However, at school she has been required to ride the Special Bus.  She earned a field trip to a destination about an hour away from her school.  At first, we were having issues with the school wanting her to ride the regular bus with the rest of the kids.  I, of course, was concerned for her safety.  However, riding in the Special Bus would have put her riding the entire time by herself.  We came up with a great solution.  She is going to ride the regular bus and will be using a 5-point harness.  She is very excited to be riding with the other kids for the first time!!

Sad Valentine’s Day

Transferred from her blog on another location:

As Sienna gets older, it’s starting to becoming more apparent to her that she’s different than her colleagues.¬† While her twin came home with a bag full of valentine’s and candies, Sienna didn’t receive any valentine’s from her peers.¬† She was very sad.¬† So, Mimi, Mommy and Daddy stepped in to make her feel special.

6th Grade

Transferred from her blog on another location:

Sienna’s first couple of weeks of 6th grade have gone pretty well.¬† She will be mainstreamed into more “regular” classes this year for the first time.¬† So, we’re looking forward to seeing how that goes.¬† She’s excited about the new challenges.¬† Originally, she was assigned a top locker, but the school quickly changed that.¬† She has made new friends and is really enjoying choir.

Twin Comparison

Transferred from her blog on another location:

Hi!¬† Sienna’s mom here.¬† I took over Sienna’s blog for a minute to express some things.¬† Recently, I was able to witness the interaction between Sienna, her twin and a little girl who was the same age.¬† It sadened me to see the annoyance in the little girl’s face when she spoke to Sienna.¬† She had never been around a child so different and was certainly more comfortable being around Sienna’s twin.¬† I was so proud of Sienna in that she didn’t miss a beat.¬† She continued to be her spunky, giving and genuine self.

It’s so unfortunate how some parents don’t teach their children to be kind to others who are not the same as themselves. Im sure Sienna is very loving and would love for the opportunity to meet her!

Look Before Backing

Moved from Sienna’s old blog location:

I’m starting to feel a bit more uncomfortable in crowds.¬† The other kids in my school are getting increasingly bigger than I am, so they’re having a hard time seeing me.¬† I was almost squished by a boy in the cafeteria who backed up without looking.¬† I said, “Hey, I’m back here!”¬† He said he was sorry and that he didn’t see me.¬† So, I guess I need to make myself stand out a bit more.
